I, W. Van der Hoeven do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Dutch Bark VonBusse whereof I am Master, from Rotterdam. Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates the omission or error made by the original
recorder.
The use of an ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due
to quality of original document.
* There were no deaths on this passage; therefore, the column for Number
and Names or Passengers who have died on the Voyage has been eliminated.
However, this column was used by the recorder to list the number of
Packages per passenger or family unit, and has the word Baggage written
at the top of this column. Brackets were originally used by the recorder
to indicate a total number of packages per family unit. This
transcription indicates this total number of packages in line with the
name of the first person listed in each individual family unit.
* The occupations listed as Pedler and Taylor appear to be misspelled and
should be Peddler and Tailor.
Passengers # 18, 19, 23, 31, 38, 42, 54, 61, and 105 appear to have male
names but were recorded as females. In addition, passengers # 38, 54,
and 105 have a female listed below them with the same last name and
indicated as Wife.
Passengers # 21, 28, 33, 39, 99, 141, 168, and 171 appear to have female
names but were recorded as males. In addition, passengers # 28, 33, 39,
and 99 have the word Wife recorded after their names.
Correspondence 1/28/02 passengers #5, 24, 52
Passengers #5 and #52 (Peter and Joost Kooiman) were brothers who
immigrated to the U.S. from the Netherlands. Passenger #24
(Gerrit van Lopik) married Joost and Peter's sister, Elizabeth.
The surname Kooiman also has the Dutch spelling of Kooijman. Peter
and Joost Kooiman also had a brother William, who is the ancestor of
Mary Louise Allen
