Transcribers notes
* The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to the
quality of the original document.
* The first paragraph of the sworn statement is located at the bottom of the page
on the original manifest. The sentence beginning with "List or Manifest..." is
located at the top.
* There were no deaths on this voyage, as stated in the sworn statement.
* The notations at the end of each grouping of names ie: Ex Hong Kong probably
indicate where they boarded the ship but the transcriber does not know the exact
meaning of "Ex".
* The passengers on the original manifest were not numbered. They are numbered on
this list to facilitate reference in the transcriber notes.
* The notation "A" is used for passengers #1 and #5-20 in the age column indicating,
I believe, that the passenger was an Adult
* Next to the heading "Chinese Steerage" is the number 38 in the age column. Passenger
# 50 has no age noted in the age column. It is possible that all of the ages are
shifted up one row.
Passenger Notes:
#2,3,4 Potts- The word Children is written diagonally across these three rows under
the column for occupation on the original manifest.
#14, 15, 16 17- These names have a line drawn through them and there is a note in
the column for recording deaths stating "landed at Victoria".
#14 Mr ? L. A. Wolff- This is a capital letter, an initial, that looks like an "I".
#15,16,17, Osb???e- These are three small letters, possibly "orn".
#17 Miss ? Osb???e- The first question mark is a capital letter, probably an initial.
It looks like "I" and is the same letter as in #14.
#25 L?in Ling- The is a scribbled area, can't be sure if it was meant to indicate
a letter or is a mistake.
#26 Hu?? Wah- These are small letters, could be any combination of i,u,n,r.
#28 S??? Lee- The second letter is an "o" or "a". The remaining letters look like
a combination of i,u,n,r.
#29 Hu?? Scing- These are small letters, could be any combination of i,u,n,r.
#61 Tanaguchi ???utaro- This looks like two or three tall letters, possibly "Ith".
#63,64,65,66,67- There is no information listed for these passengers in the columns
after age. The rows are bracketed and there is a notation, "See Page 37 Lines
9-10-11-15". There is a number 37 in the upper right corner of the manifest but
there is no indication of line numbers.
#67 Trach?yo D????chi- This name has a line drawn through it with the notation in
the deaths column "left at Victoria BC". The question mark in the first name
appears to be a small letter, perhaps an "i". The first question mark in the
surname represents a small letter, possibly an "i". The second question mark
indicates a letter that extends below the line like a "p". The next two letters
are small letters, the last one could be a "c".
