Transcriber's Notes:
* This list seems particularly poignant, not only because of the
young mothers and children who died, but it contains the names
of two of the oldest people this transcriber has found, who
attempted the long voyage to a better life.
* Henry and Ann McKenny, aged 93 and 87 respectively, who would
have been born in the mid 1700's, tried to escape the effects
of those desparate famine years. They left at the height
of the famine, with what appears to be a younger relative, perhaps
a son or nephew, on a late winter voyage, only to die far from the
cottage where they spent their lives, and the little Irish churchyard
where they should have been buried next to their ancestors.
One cannot imagine the horrors they must have endured,
only to die at sea.
The 12 deaths recorded on this list were:
# 25 Eugene Temerty
# 35-36 Henry McKenny and Ann McKenny
# 75-78 Owen McCarney & 4-year-old James McCarney
# 82-83 Mary McGlat and her infant Robert McGlat
# 88 Ellen O'Neil
# 92 Mrs. Carney who left behind her husband and infant
#113 Moses Richan
#123 Mrs. Keegan who left behind her husband and 9-year-old daughter
#155 4-year-old Ellen Doyle
Other notes:
# 21 first name is written Normy, but possibly should have been Norry.
# 25 listed as female, but was a male first name, unless it was to be Eugenia.
# 29 first name as found.
# 42-44 written as Conmon.
# 45 first name Bessy or Betsy.
# 60 surname Timars or Tunars. Letters in question do not extend
above or below the line.
# 84-85 same as note for #42-44.
#145 surname begins with N or W.
Correspondence 05/07/01 passengers #4 & 5 Murphy
My great grandfather is Cornelius Murphy #4 on the list of
passengers on the Ship Venice. He was from Ireland, left from Liverpool,
England and arrived Boston, Massachusetts. Cornelius was born 1827
and died 1922 according to my info. Place of death I'm still researching
but could be buried in Harrison County, possibly Berry, Kentucky. He married
Emily Ann Crawford September 2, 1847 in Harrison Co, Ky. and settled there.
Known children of Cornelius and Emily: James, William, Hampton, Sarah, Nancy,
Ann, Mary, John, and Cornelius Newton Murphy. John is my grandfather.
There is a Julia Murphy #5 on the passenger list who might be Cornelius's
sister. I would like to know where in Ireland Cornelius was from.
