DISTRICT OF NEW YORK – PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Jno B. Pell, master of Ship St Nichlas do solemnly, sincerely, and truly affirm that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collections District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of said Ship St Nichlas at Havre from which Port said Ship has now arrived; and that on the said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country to which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died.  # 14. There is a fold in the manifest at this point and I can't make out the
Writing.
 # 37. This is how it is spelled on the manifest.
 # 50. The first letters are writen over and it is unreadable.
 # 71. Writen over. Could be an r.
 # 77. Died at sea 18 April 1842.
 # 93. Writen over. No guess as to what it is.
 # 94. Same as # 37.
 # 101.Same as # 37.
 # 102.A smear on the manifest.
 # 129.An umlaut over the o.
 # 132.Smudges on the manifest so the writing is not readable.

 # 140.Hole and smudge on manifest.  Could be France. But I am not sure.

Correspondence 4/25/01 passenger #38 Mutschler
Passenger #38: Joseph Mutschler was born 1 April 1813 in Grafenhausen, Lahr,
Baden, Germany.  His father Ignaz, died 18 April 1841 and Joseph left for
America 21 April 1842 from the Port of Havre on the ship St. Nicklas.  He
went to Big Spring, Seneca County, Ohio.  He married to Rosa Schindler.
Rosa was born in Riegel, Lahr, Gaden, Germany.  They had 8 children: Mary,
Angeline, Agatha, August, Joseph, Rosa, Franz Andrew, and Martin.  Joseph
was struck by lightning and killed July 3, 1860 in Ohio.  Rosa later moved
out west to Sublimity, Marion County, Oregon and died July 28, 1911.
