Liverpool, England to Edgartown, Massachusetts
21 November 1845

DISTRICT OF EDGARTOWN – PORT OF EDGARTOWN
I, A. K. White do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear, that the within REPORT and LIST, subscribed with my name and now delivered by me to the Collector of the district of Edgartown, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Steam Ship Massachusetts of Boston whereof I am at present master, at the time of her sailing from the port of Liverpool or which have at any time since been taken on board the said vessel. And I do likewise swear, that all matters whatsoever in said report and list expressed, are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. SO HELP ME GOD. (Signed) A. K. White. Transcriber's Notes:  
 #16 perhaps this is Robert Bennet Forbes who commanded the U. S. S. Jamestown on 
     her voyage of mercy to Cork, Ireland in 1847.  Forbes was a noted Bostonian.  
     (See transcription of the Jamestown 1847 on this site.)
 #21 nothing recorded in last 2 columns.
 #22 letters in surname could be ri or n, Moris or Mons, perhaps.  
     Letters do not extend above mid-point of line. 
 #30 surname perhaps should be Bruce.
 #32 first initial S or D.
 #37 occupation mauner or mariner.
 #38 surname possibly begins with U or W or M.  Seems to end with d.  
     Other letters do not extend above the mid-point.
 #44 age begins with either 2 or 3.
 #45 letter in surname either t or l, Whittendale or Whitlendale.
 #55-59 occupation looks like Gwt or Giot, probably Gent.
 #60 occupation possibly begins with S, then looks like 2 more letters after the S.  
     But it could possibly be Flax Dresser.
 #62 listed as male.
 #63 age probably 26.
 #64 perhaps occupation should have been written in line for #63.
 #65 age possibly 11 months.
 #66 age either 28 or 25.
 #68 first name Jas. or Jos.
 #69 surname possibly Harrison or Hawson.  Was dittoed for female but male first name.
 #71 after B, looks like either a or e, then maybe s, then a letter that extends both 
     above mid-point and below the line, then a super-scribed letter which could be 
     n or l.  Does not really look like abbreviation for Benjamin.  
     Ditto marks for female.
 #72-74 looks like Watmor for #73-74, but #72 looks like Hetmer.
 #73 probably abbreviation for Benjamin.
 #77 first name Jos. or Jas.
 #79 looks something like Matilta.
 #80 looks like Rosatte or Rosalie.
 #82-83 surname possibly McCarrick or McCinnick.
 #84 probably Thos.  Age could be 45 or 48.
 #86 ditto marks for male.
 #89 age possibly 15 or 18.
