Transcriber's Notes:
  The use of a ? indicates a letter or letters illegible to the transcriber
    due to quality of original document.
  The use of an * indicates unreadable letters or an omission or error made
    by the original recorder.

For sworn statement:
  At the very top of the manifest it says Compagnie Generale Transatlantique.
    Generale has an acute accent above the first and second " e ".
  It also says The Passenger Act 1882 just before district and port.
  There is a tear or smudge on the manifest, but this word is probably
    " District ".
  SS was written " S/S. " both times on the manifest.
  Le Havre was written with a line above the " a " in both instances.
  There is a tear or smudge on the manifest, but the missing word is
    probably " the ".
  There is a tear or smudge on the manifest, but the missing letter is
    probably " d " -- dates.
  There is a tear or smudge on the manifest, but the missing letter is
    probably " a " -- alien.
  Part of a typed letter is missing in this word, but it is probably
    "t "  -- protracted.
  The Deputy Collector also wrote his initials, " TJD ", in the left
    column near his signature.

  There is also a French version of the column headings (with no
  accents that are visible) below the English headings: Numeros, Noms, Age
  (Ans, Mois), Sex, Profession, Pays auxquels ils appartiennent,
  Destination ou localite auxquelles ils ont l'intention de se rendre,
  Emplacement du Compartiment ou espace occupe, Nombre de colis Bagages, De
  passage, ou en transit, ou Projetant un sejour prolonge, Date et cause de
  la mort.

* To save space, Second Class was put above the passenger list by transcriber
  as all passengers #143 - 304 are in Second Class.

* The last column indicates whether the passengers are transient or intended
  protracted sojourn. All passengers are Transient except for #'s 147, 190,
  and 274 which are listed as P.S. (protracted sojourn).

* There were no deaths on the voyage, so that column has been eliminated.

* Passenger # 167 Acute accents over both e's in first name.
* Passenger # 173 Place going to is Altoona, Pa.
* Passenger # 174 Last name could be Smoberdorf or Sinoberdorf.
* Passenger # 186 M is the sex of this passenger written by the
                          original list taker.
* Passenger # 199 Umlaut over a in last name.
* Passengers # 204 - 206  Umlaut over u in last name.
* Passenger # 220 Place going to is Altoona, Pa.
* Passenger # 229 Umlaut over a in last name.
* Passenger # 241 Acute accents over first two e's in first name.
* Passengers # 243 & 244  Place going to is Monroe, Wisc.
* Passenger # 244 "Do" is written in under Jacob (passenger's first
                          name on previous line). Since "F" is written in
                          the sex column, and she follows Jacob Strahm on
                          the list, one could assume this passenger is Rosa
                          Strahm, Jacob's relative, and that the list taker
                          just mixed up the first and last names (like with
                          passenger #302). All other passengers are listed
                          first name first and last name second. These two
                          passengers are also from and going to the same
                          place.
* Passenger # 245 Place going to is DuQuoin, Ill.
* Passenger # 251 Place going to is Waterbury, Conn.
* Passengers # 252 - 258  Place going to is Altoona, Pa.
* Passengers # 270 & 271  Last name has acute accent over e.
* Passenger # 273 Place going to is Pittsburgh, Pa.
* Passenger # 274 Place going to could be Attica, Ind.
* Passenger # 280 Umlaut over o in last name.
* Passenger # 282 Place going to is Schaller, Iowa.
* Passenger # 283 Acute accent over e in first name.
* Passenger # 289 Acute accents over e's in first name.
* Passenger # 302 "Do" is written in under Cosmo (passenger's first
                          name on previous line). Since "F" is written in
                          the sex column, and she follows Cosmo Kriletic on
                          the list, one could assume this passenger is
                          Francesca Kriletic, Cosmo's relative, and that the
                          list taker just mixed up the first and last names
                          (like with passenger #244). All other passengers
                          are listed first name first and last name second.
                          These two passengers are also from and going to the
                          same place.
