DISTRICT OF EDGARTOWN – PORT OF EDGARTOWN
I, Samuel Upton, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear, that the Report and List submitted with my name, and now delivered by me to the collector of the District of Edgartown contains to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Schooner Essex whereof I am at present Master, at the time of her sailing from the Port of Cayenne*, or which have at any time since been taken on board of said Vessel, and I do likewise swear, that all matters whatsoever in said Report and List expressed are to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. So help me God, (signed) Samuel Upton. Sworn before me this 20th day of December 1822 (signed) Thomas Cook, Jr., Coll.

Transcriber's Notes:     
* This ship was bound for Boston according to the manifest, 
  however it put in at Edgartown.
* There was no indication as to which port of Cayenne this ship had 
  sailed from, though I found 1 in French Guiana, another in Hayti, and 1 in Mass.
* Occupation was listed only for the first passenger.
 #1 surname may have been Kelly or Kiely.
 #4 age was 7 or 9.
 #7 letter in surname is probably r, but could be n.
