I, James Kennedy Master of the SS City of Chester do solemnly, sincerely, and truly Swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool & Queenstown from which port the said vessel has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So Help me God.

Passengers 441 - 446, the family of Mary WALLACE are my ancestors. Passenger #446, Michael age 2 was my paternal grandfather. My great-grandfather Michael WALLACE abt age 41 and his oldest son, Philip age 16 were not listed on the manifest, although Michael had come to Brownhelm, Lorain County, Ohio in 1869 to work in the stone quarries. Perhaps they came ahead.
The WALLACE family settled in Brownhelm, Ohio until 1886, when they moved to Bryant, Hamlin County, South Dakota to homestead. Michael and wife, Mary are buried there.
Child Michael returned to Brownhelm, Lorain County, Ohio in 1907 and died here in 1917. Child Mary also returned to Brownhelm, and lived out her life here.
Now I am curious to find out what the ship looked like and what ship board life was like.
