Transcriber's Notes:
*In the column "The country to which they severally belong", the captain
turned the manifest sideways and wrote the word "Germany" over and over
in very large letters, indicating that all passengers were from Germany.
*Similarly, in the next column, "The country in which they intend to
become inhabitants, "United States" is written in large letters.
*In the column "Died on the voyage, the captain indicated which part
of the ship the passengers were in. (There was no indication that any
passenger had died on the voyage.)
*Passengers 317 - 333 were in the Between Deck
*Passengers 334 - 402 were in the Second Cabin
*Passengers 403 - 429 were in the First Cabin
*Although the captain's handwriting is quite clear, it is difficult
to determine differences between some of his letters, such as J and Y.
318 - First initial could be a J or Y
319 - The first name appears to be abbreviated
320-323 - The unknown letter could be an l or a t
324 - No occupation is given
327-328 - The first name is abbreviated
329 - There is a small superscript letter or letters after the g.
Possibly 'th'.
334-335 - First name is abbreviated
338 - There is an umlaut over the u
352 - The unknown letter could be a J or a Y
354 - The original paper was torn here. It is difficult to discern
the writing. The first initial could be an A, H or K. The
surname could begin with a P.
355 - The first initial could be an F or a T
357 - The first initial could be a J or Y
358 - There is a superscript 'a' after the first name
372 - There is an umlaut over the o
378 - The first name is abbreviated
379 - I was unable to determine if this is 'fs' or 'ss'
386 - First name is abbreviated as either Au. or Av.
399 - Unable to read first initial because the bottom of it is
obliterated in the copy. It could be a G, J or Y.
400 - The original paper was torn here where the surname would be.
There is no indication of a name having been written there at
all, which may mean that it was the same as the name above it.
No occupation can be seen, either, which could also mean that
it was the same as the occupation above it.
404 - Unknown letter could be J or Y
417 - The first letter (or two letters) could be Jo or Yo
422 - The unknown letter could be 'n'
423 - Either the paper is torn or there is a large black smudge over
the occupation column here. There is no indication of any
writing, which may mean there was a ditto mark instead. The
unknown number in the age could be a 7 or a 9.
