5 February 1849

DISTRICT OF EDGARTOWN - PORT OF EDGARTOWN
I, Silas N. Castner, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear, that the Report and List submitted with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the District of Edgartown contains to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Bark Avernon*, whereof I am at present Master, at the time of her sailing from the Port of Cork (Ireland), or which have at any time since been taken on board of said vessel. And I do likewise swear, that all matters whatsoever in said Report and List expressed are to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. So help me God, (signed) Silas N. Castner. Sworn to before me, this 5th day of Feby. 1849, (signed) H. P. Worth, Coll.
Report and List of the Passengers taken on board the Bark Avernon of Waldober?, (Me.), whereof Silas N. Castner is Master, burthen 289 tons and 79/95ths of a ton, bound from the Port of Cork (Ireland), for Boston.*
Columns represent: name, age, sex, occupation, country to which they severally belong, country of which they intend to become inhabitants. All the passengers were from Ireland and all intended to become inhabitants of the United States so those columns will be eliminated here. There was one death recorded in the remarks column. This will be found in the footnotes.

Transcriber's Notes:
* This ship was originally bound for Boston. It was spelled
both Avernon and Averon on this manifest, but is probably
Avernon. Was seen on Baltimore lists as Avernon.

#19 by this name, in right column, was written "died Jany 10, 1849".
#20 this name was in parentheses on list. It was not clear if
that meant that the note by #19 was written in the wrong passenger's
space. There were 2 other passengers whose names were also in
parentheses, but no notes by their names.
#24 letters in question could be ir.
 #27 first name possibly Eliza.
 #36-37 written O' for #36, but not for #37.
#42 letters in question could be ar/oi. Surname possibly Darcy or Doicy.
#45 first letter in surname could be G. Name may be Geohagan.
 #74 probably Cath.
 #76-78 possibly rr or w.
#78-79 first letter was L or S. Was used as first name for #78 and
     last name for #79.
#80 letters 1 & 2 could be Le, may be e on end.
 #92 letters 3 and 4 possibly be/hi. Last letter could be e or l.
Name could be Cahill or Cabell or something like that.
#97 first name Mary or Marg.
#103 written as male.
#106 surname in parentheses.
#108 letters in question possibly our.
#112 letters do not extend above the mid-point.
#116 surname in parentheses.
#117-122 surname could be Maborey.
#128-130 same as #42.
