Johann Kressin (my 3 great grandfather)
Johann Kressin traveled to America from Prussia with his first wife
Maria Charlotte Fredericke and their children. It is likely that
Dorothea Kressin who also traveled with them was his mother, but
this is not certain yet. It is also likely that Gottfried and his
family who traveled on the same ship were also related to Johann.
Johann Kressin may be found in the 1850 U.S. Census in District 48,
Washington County, Wisconsin. He was with his first wife yet, and he
was farming there. Persons listed: John Kressin (43), Charlotte (33),
Wilhelm (13), Ferdinand (11), Caroline (8), Henry (5), Gotleib (1/12).
Johann Kressin is later found in the 1860 U.S. Census in Jackson
Township, Washington County, Wisconsin, with his second wife Wilhelmine,
still farming. Persons listed: John Kressin (52), Wilhelmine (29),
Wilham (22), Ferdinand (17), Henry (15), Gottlieb (10), Frank (9),
Julius (5), Theresa (4), Otto (5/12) and a different Caroline (17).
Johann Kressin is later found in the 1870 U.S. Census in Jackson
Township, Washington County, Wisconsin, but on the 1880 U.S. Census he
had passed on. Wilhelmine was still in the same location raising
youngest children Sarah, Albertine, Emilie and Johanna, and with
sons Henry and Gottlieb and their families next door doing the farming.
I am happy to share information with relatives and learn more about
these ancestors as well. Christine LaBounty
