* Oath of Allegiance: We Subscribers Natives and late Inhabitants of
the Palatinate upon the Rhine and places adjacent, having transported
our Selves and Families into the Province of Pennsylvania, a Colony
Subject to the Crown of Great Britain, in hopes and expectation of
finding a retreat and peaceable Settlement therein DO solemnly promise
and engage that we will be faithfull and bear true Allegiance to his
present Majesty King George the Second and his Successon Kings of
Great Britain and will be faithfull to the Proprietor of this Province
and that we will demean our Selves peaceably to all his Majesties
Subjects, and Strictly observe and conform to the Laws of England and
of this Province to the utmost of our power and best of our
understanding.
* Oath of Abjuration: At the Court House of Philadelphia September
9th, 1738 Present The Honorable George Thomas Esqr. Lieutenant
Governour Thomas Goryus Esqr. The palatines whose Names are
underwritten imported in the Ship Glasgow Walter Sterling Comr. and the
Snow Two Sisters James Cranshall Comr. but both last from Cows in
England do this Day ??he and Inbo?etee the Oaths to the Goverment Viz+
* Many names are spelled differenty on each of the three lists. This
occurred because the lists were compiled by different people, who may
not have been familiar with German spelling, and is not the result of
error on the part of the transcriber. The names were matched as well
as possible.
*Several passengers listed on the Captain's ship's list did not sign
the oath of allegiance or abjuration. All names given on each document
were transcribed.
*The original ship's list was not numbered.
** Passengers 123 through 156 emigrated to Philadelphia aboard the Snow
"Two Sisters" and were therefore not included on the ship's list of
the ship, "Glasgow," but they did sign the Oath of Abjuration with the
passengers of the "Glasgow", so their names have been included in
that list.
* Passengers 3, 7, 31, 91, 110, and 156: The esstset in these names
was replaced by "ss".
* Passengers 15, 20, 21, 43, 50, 68, 77, 88, 89, and 97: The
diacritical mark above the letter "u" were eliminated.
* Passenger 116: The diacritical mark above the letter "a" was
eliminted.
* Passengers 69 and 70: The diacritical mark above the letter "o" was
eliminated.
* Passenger 18, Johan Nicholas (Nickel) Fisher married Susanna Maria
Agnes Klee, the sister of Passenger 19, Johan Nicolaus (Nickel) Klee.
* Passenger 19 was baptised Johann Nicholaus Klee in the Reformed
Church in Konken, in the Pfaltz region of Germany on February 5, 1706.
His parents were Johan Nicholaus Klee Sr. and Anna Elisabetha, nee
Braun. Mr. Klee married Anna Catharina while still in Germany. After
arriving in America, the Klee family settled on 200 acres of land in
Mannheim, York County, later Adams County, Pennsylvania. In 1763,
Mr. Klee sold his land and moved to Hanover Township, where he remained
until his death in 1776. At the time of his death, his estate records
showed an estate amounting to 210.11.1 pounds.
* Passenger 26, Johan Theobald Klee, married Elisabetha Catharina prior
to 1735, when their son, Johan Nickel Klee, was born. In 1738 he was
listed in the Zweibruecken Manumissions Protocoll as moving to America
from the county of Lichtenburg.
Correspondence: 2/00 Passenger #22 Stout
Tammy Alcott sent us the following information:
Daniel Stout was my GGGGGGGGGrandfather. Daniel was born in Germany
ABT 1693. He married Eva Magdalena Schmid ABT Jan. 19, 1716/17.
Peter was Daniel's 3rd child born ABT 1721.
Daniel married again on Nov. 27, 1736 to Anna Elisabetha Keller.
Daniel and Anna had a daughter ,Elisabetha, born Sept. 1737 in
Germany. Daniel and Peter(son from 1st marriage) left for US in
1738.
Daniel and Anna's next child Godfrey Daniel, wasn't born until 1750
in PA. Their next 2 children were Johannes C. born in 1754 VA, and
George Benjamin born 1755 in VA.
The huge gap in years between Daniel and Anna's children could
explain his wife's absence on the Glasgow. Anna and her daughter
must have arrived at a much later date. I haven't been able to
find any info on their voyage.
