Transcriber's Notes:

An asterisk (*) indicates the original recorder made an omission or error, or is used by the transcriber to call your
attention to additional information below in these transcriber's notes.

A question mark (?) indicates letter(s) cannot be read due to condition of the manifest or the recorder's handwriting.

A caret (^) in a name or other word indicates the letter following the caret was superscripted by the recorder. This
usually means the word is abbreviated and the raised letter is the last letter of the word.

Passengers were not numbered on the manifest. The transcriber has numbered the passengers consecutively in the order
they were listed by the recorder.

The recorder's handwriting was generally good, but spelling was not excellent. Some given names and occupations were
misspelled (in English); surnames may have been misspelled but that is less obvious because surnames have many
variations.

Misspelled names: three female names may have been consistently misspelled by the recorder:
  "Babara" - probable misspelling of Barbara: passengers #11, 116, 160, 166, 173.
"Chatarine" or "Chatarina" - probable misspelling of Catharine or Catharina:
                               passengers #92, 106, 107, 113, 119, 130, 156, 179, 199.
  "Magreta" - possible misspelling of Margreta or Margareta: passengers #49, 62, 74, 162, 184, 205, 236, 244.

Sex column: the recorder listed gender or family status in this column. For some passengers he wrote the gender: female
or male or man, and for others he listed relationship to the head of the household: wife, daughter, son, mother, etc.

Part of the vessel occupied: the recorder listed this information in the last column. For formatting purposes the
transcriber has inserted this information in the first column above the name of the first passenger who occupied each
class: passengers #1-4 occupied First Cabin, passengers #5-72 occupied Second Cabin, and passengers #73-254 occupied
the part of vessel known as Between Deck.

Unless otherwise explained in these transcriber's Notes, information has been transcribed as seen, regardless of
spelling, abbreviations, punctuation or capitalization used on the manifest.

3 In surname the 2nd and 3rd letters are hard to read. There is a mark above this area which could be either an
umlaut or dot for an "i" but neither letter looks much like an "i." 2nd letter looks most like "o" or "r" and
3rd letter looks most like "u" or "a." Some possible pronounceable combinations are: Poutz, Pratz (and if
one of the letters is "i"): Pritz, Poitz, Piatz.
4 In surname Hoyer the "o" is umlaut.
5-6 In surname Muhrenberg the "u" is umlaut.
8 In surname Stuber the "u" is umlaut. This applies to all members of the family.
28 In surname Busch the "u" is umlaut.
31 In surname Rukert the "u" is umlaut. This applies to all members of the family.
37 In surname Bruger the "u" is umlaut. This applies to all members of the family.
42 In surname Hofling the "o" is umlaut. Transcriber is not familiar with middle name Egit but spelling is fairly
clear. It may be an abbreviation.
43 In surname Muller the "u" is umlaut.
55 In surname Hofling the "o" is umlaut.
64 Maria Knop, who apparently is the mother of Jacob Knop, is the only passenger who died on the voyage.
 65 Surname might be Mathers.
67 Full middle name is Wilhelm; transcriber uses initial "W" for space reasons.
68 Full middle name is Friederike; transcriber uses initial "F" for space reasons.
71-72 In surname Fahlstich the "a" is umlaut.
82 In surname Schafer the "a" is umlaut.
87 In surname Stuber the "u" is umlaut. This applies to all members of the family.
100 In surname Hubel the "u" is umlaut. This applies to all members of the family.
115-116 Passengers are obviously husband and wife but 3rd letter of surname is clearly "k" for passenger #115 and "h"
for passenger #116. One would expect both surnames to be the same: either Zakner or Zahner.
117 Surname might be Hoell. Whether Roell or Hoell, the "o" is umlaut.
118-121 Surname might be Paneck, as leading letter looks like J or P.
122 Occupation "pattmaker" is fairly clear; transcriber is not familiar with this occupation.
137,146 #137 Schwink clearly has "i" as the vowel and #146 Schwenk clearly has "e" as the vowel. If the passengers are
related and one name is misspelled then #137 might be Schwenk or #146 might be Schwink.
147 Occupation misspelling of weaver?
159 Did recorder misspell David?
159-162 Surname of family was spelled three different ways by the recorder: Bruck, Brunk, Brunck. No way to know which
         spelling was correct.
163 Occupation misspelling of weaver? The occupation appears to have a line drawn through it, as if an attempt was
         made to cross it out.
167 A "coper" was a horse dealer, unless the recorder misspelled cooper?
175 Did recorder misspell Hornung or Hartung?
176 Occupation misspelling of mason?
177 Questionable letters are difficult to read. They are squished together and do not resemble letters written
elsewhere on the manifest. Look somewhat like "Grm" or "Thu" but these do not create a pronounceable name.
178-181 Recorder spelled family surname two different ways: Laubhold & Laibhold. But these are both unusual. Should
         name be Liebhold/Leibhold instead?
187 Surname might be Bosse. Double "ss" often looked like "fs" when written in script (although the loop at the
bottom of the "f" curved down to the left so the letter really looked like an "8") but in this case the
recorder might have reversed the order to "sf" or "s8" which is what the 3rd-4th letters look like.
212 Did recorder misspell given name Gerhard and occupation "mason?"
214 Occupation misspelling of mason?
225 Occupation misspelling of glasscutter (glazier)?
229 Occupation misspelling of cigarmaker?
230 In surname Dohrmann the "o" is umlaut.
232 In occupation a correction was made; a "t" or "h" was written as 3rd letter then crossed out. Result looks most
         like combmaker.
234 Did recorder misspell Gerhard? Since this boy's last name is different from other family members, is he the son
         from his mother's previous marriage?
237 In surname Munch the "u" is umlaut.
249,251 Surname #249 looks like Kimmele and #251 looks like Rimmele. But if the recorder mis-formed the K or R, then
#249 might be Rimmele or #251 might be Kimmele.
252 In surname Brohler the "o" is umlaut. This applies also to #253 but there is no umlaut over #254 Brohler.
