So help me God (Signature) J. Meyer

Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) indicates the original recorder made an omission or error, or is used by the transcriber to call your
attention to additional information in these transcriber's notes.
A question mark (?) indicates a word or letters the transcriber could not read due to quality of original document or
handwriting of the recorder.
Passengers were numbered on the manifest and the transcriber has used the same numbers.
Suggested given names for abbreviations used on the manifest:
Andr. = Andrew
Aug. = August
Cath^e = Catherine
Chr. = Christian
Ed. = Edward or Eduard
Fr. or Frdr. = Freidrich or Frederick
Fridr. = Fridrich
Frieke. = Friederike
Hein. = Heinrich
Herrm. = Herrmann
Joh. = Johann
Joh^a = Johanna
Joh^e = Johanne
Joh^s = Johannes
Jul. = Julius
Joach. = Joachim
Rud. = Rudolph
Th. = Thomas
Wilh. = Wilhelm
W^m = William
In the sex column the recorder wrote female or male or used a ditto mark. The transcriber has used M or F throughout
this transcription for formatting purposes.
Country where passengers intend to become inhabitants: United States was listed as the destination for all passengers
so the column has been omitted.
Status of children in occupation column: When a family had two or more children, the recorder grouped the children with
a bracket and wrote diagonally "her children" or "his children" once for each family. For formatting the transcriber has
omitted the brackets and used the phrase "her child" or "his child" for each child.
No deaths were recorded on the voyage, so the "Died" column has been omitted.
Part of vessel occupied: This information was written in the last column on the manifest (on most pages it was written
once vertically in large script on the side of the page). For formatting and space reasons the transcriber has inserted
this information in the first column above the name of the first passenger who occupied each class, and the column
has been omitted.
Information has been transcribed as seen, regardless of the spelling, abbreviation, punctuation or capitalization used
on the manifest by the recorder. Any exceptions are explained in these Notes.
4 In surname the "o" is umlaut.
22 Leading letter of surname only partially visible due to fading. Might be "K" thus Kiemann is possible name.
28, 34 Writing for each surname was clear, but if these men were related did recorder misspell one of the surnames? If
so, passenger #28 might be Heinr. Schmehl or passenger #34 might be Carl Schmell. Surnames of family members
of both men were ditto marks.
62 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
78-80 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
86 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
92-93 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
96 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
103-105 Spelling is clear for this unusual surname; no alternatives come to mind. Surname was written for #103 and ditto
marks were used for other family members.
111 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
114-116 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
117 Spelling is clear for this unusual name, but did recorder reverse the vowels of Vinson?
135 In surname the "a" is umlaut.
138 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
157 In surname the "u" is umlaut.
163-167 In surname the "o" is umlaut.
170 In surname the "a" is umlaut.
171 Surname might be Esan.
178-184 In surname the "o" is umlaut.
217-218 In surname the "o" is umlaut.
236-242 In surname the "o" is umlaut.
240-242 These three children were listed at the top of the last page of the manifest. Since they were not on the same
page as their parents, the recorder (correctly) referred to their father who was listed on a different page,
so any researcher viewing this one page would not think the children were traveling alone.
249 Not clear what occupation "master" means. Was he the master (captain) of a ship? A master craftsman?
