Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) indicates the original recorder made an omission or error, or is used by the transcriber to call your
attention to additional information below in these transcriber's notes.
A question mark (?) indicates letter(s) cannot be read due to condition of the manifest or recorder's handwriting.
Passengers were numbered on the manifest and the transcriber has used the same numbers.
Surname of the Captain (master): Surname might be Blanke instead of Blankes. See the following note for details.
Name of the ship: The ship might be Alban instead of Albans. The name of the ship was written in four places on the
manifest, and the person who wrote it appears to be the captain (master) B. Blankes (whose name might be Blanke). He
tended to end many of his handwritten words, including his own name, after the final letter with an additional swirl
that could be an "s." Thus his surname, as he wrote it, was either Blanke or Blankes, and the ship's name, as he wrote
it, was either Alban or Albans.
Spelling of Bremerhaven: The departure city name was spelled Bremerhafen the second time it was written.
Died on the voyage. The unidentified baby referred to in the Captain's note at the end of the manifest ("one child born
and died on the voyage") would be in addition to the two identified children who died: #101 Auguste Fischer who was 9
months old and #265 Wessel Schneiss who was 7 years old.
Unless otherwise explained in these transcriber's notes, information has been transcribed as seen, regardless of
spelling, abbreviations, punctuation or capitalization used on the manifest.
1-2 Part of the vessel occupied was not listed for these two passengers. It may have been "First Cabin" since they
were listed separately from the passengers who occupied Second Cabin and Between Deck accommodations.
3-4 Surname might be Obig.
9 Ditto mark in sex column for "male" was a recorder error for passenger whose name was Sophie.
11 Did recorder misspell Catharina?
12 In surname Schonfeld the "o" is umlaut.
13 Questionable letter in surname is obscured by a black discoloration and cannot be read.
14 Questionable letter in surname obscured by a tear in the paper and cannot be read. However, if this boy is with
with passenger #15, the surname is Leege.
17 In surname Gotz the "o" is umlaut.
19 In surname Leinkuhler the "u" is umlaut. Occupation Cuper is shown as spelled by recorder.
20 Surname might be Theilen. Occupation Cuper is shown as spelled by recorder.
24 In surname Lutge a mark over the "u" may be umlaut.
31 In surname Frobose the 2nd "o" is umlaut.
33 In surname Weidemuller the "u" is umlaut.
41 Occupation Wagonmacker is shown here as spelled by recorder.
52 Surname might be Morschel.
64 Surname might be Beise.
65-72 In surname Koster the "o" is umlaut.
75 Spelling is clear for unusual given name Chatharie.
86 Spelling is clear for unusual surname Loenengrund; no alternatives come to mind.
111 In surname Losch the "o" is umlaut.
124 In surname Losch the "o" is umlaut.
127 Leading letter of surname partially obscured by crease in paper. Lower part of letter looks like "S" (thus
Siemens is possible) but direction of upward stroke looks more like "F."
134 End of surname that looks like double "ss" might be "p" thus Top is possible.
142 Full middle name Friedericke has been abbreviated by transcriber for formatting reasons.
143 Transcriber has used initial "H" for middle name Heinr., for formatting reasons.
146 Transcriber has used initial "F" for middle name Friedrich, for formatting reasons.
156-159 In surname Grotsch the "o" is umlaut. Occupation Cuper is shown as spelled by recorder.
175 In surname Groschel the "o" is umlaut.
180-182 Recorder error, using ditto in sex column (meaning female) for these three passengers with male names.
182 Occupation Blaksmith is shown as spelled by recorder.
188 Did recorder reverse the given name and surname - Abe Hartmann?
191-192 #191 occupation Blaksmith is shown as spelled by recorder. #192 was ditto.
194 In surname Ludemann the "u" is umlaut.
197 In surname Kramer the "a" is umlaut.
211 In surname Kluh the "u" is umlaut.
215 Given name might be Christine; the last 3 letters were overwritten with a
a correction and are hard to read.
215-220 In surname Trupel the "u" is umlaut.
229-231 Surname might be Menoch.
234 In front of the name an X was drawn, and over the name someone wrote the date 11/21/05. The meaning of these
entries is unknown. Occupation Carpentor is shown as spelled by recorder.
235 Occupation Blaksmith is shown as spelled by recorder.
241 Questionable information for this passenger is missing here because the manifest is torn horizontally all the
way across this passenger's entry. The Age (21) is partially visible. The Country information can be seen as
ditto marks on the manifest; the transcriber has written out the country information for clarification.
248-250 In surname Horde the "o" is umlaut.
259-260 In surname the "a" is umlaut. The 3rd letter could be "s" squished against "n," thus Hasner is possible.
#260 surname is ditto.
265 Wessel Scheiss died. An X was written in front of his age, and the phrase "died on the voyage" was written
twice (once in the Origin column, and again in the Died column).
267-268 Twins? #267: did recorder mean Francke? #268: in given name Lucke the "u" is umlaut
