Bark Therese
I, C. Hohorst, Master of the Bark Therese do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Therese at Bremen from which port said Therese has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.
Sworn to this May 27 1861 So help me God C. Hohorst
Before me (port authority signature illegible)
List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the Bremen Bark Therese whereof C. Hohorst is Master from Bremen burthen 596 tons.
Columns represent: passenger name, age, gender, occupation and destination. The column for origin has been omitted on this list because Germany is listed as the origin of all.

Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the transcriber,
or is used to call your attention to additional information in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the
manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.
* The writer of this list lists wives and children without a surname and usually does not use
ditto marks for the destination. Presumably the surnames are the same aa the head of the
family as well as the destination.
* This passenger list has a number of emigrants from Ostfriesland going to Freeport,
Illinois. Their information is expanded in the passenger notes below based on entries in
the Ortssippenbücher (Lineage Books) for the village of their origin. The Ostfriesian
names are often incorrect because their language was low German and those who only
understood high German often did not understand the differences; hence, Jans becomes
Johannes, or Freerk becomes Friedrich, etc.
2 Presumably the surname is Battger.
7 Destination is Fr? Port. probably Freeport Illinois

(Ortssippenbuch Neermoor entry No. 1982, where the names are listed as Jans Willems
Heddens, Maike (his wife) and a daughter, Rikste Klaasina Heddens.
51-54 The Freese family were from Neermoor, Ostfriesland (Ortssipenbuch No. 4856). Their
destination was Freeport, Illinois. The wife's name should have been listed as
Taalke (her maiden name was Kuhlmann). In the Ortssippenbuch the surname is listed as
Vryze.
55-56 Likely the surname should be Gosseling. See OSB Neermoor no. 1662. Wife's name

240 Presumably the surname is Schuh.
242-248 Presumably the surname is Baumbach for all.
252-253 Presumably the surname is Hoffmann.

later addition, and the next passenger is listed as "wife."
