Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which explains the entry.
A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the quality of the
document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's Notes of what the letter/
letters may be.
A circumflex (^) is used to indicate missing letters in a name or word. The original lister showed
this by writing the final letter smaller and raising it above the line.
The column, "Died on the voyage" was eliminated from this transcription as there were no deaths
on this passage.
The original lister did not number the passengers, nor did he provide a recapitulation;
however, it appears to be a complete manifest.
The lister used the leading "s", which at first glance appears to be an "f", but actually is the
first of a double "s" word, as in Miss. Where this is noted, it has been changed.
3 This passenger was the gentleman who laid the first cable across the Atlantic Ocean.
See: Cyrus West Field
4 This could possibly be J. P. Morgan, noted financier.
5 Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte Southworth was a noted novelist of the era.
See: E.D.E.N. Southworth
24 Viltman, Veltman, Voltman.
39 Going to: Richmond County, N.S.
41 The last two-three letters cannot be distinguished. They all are on the line, neither going
above nor below the line, as in "u", "n", "a". There may possibly be an "i" within those
few letters.
56 All of the missing letters are on the line, neither going above nor below it. There is a
dot for an "i" close to the second "l", so possibly the name begins Villi----. The last two
letters seem to be "re". Villimore, Villinore, or something similar.
