Transcriber's Notes: An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the Transcriber's Notes, which further explains the entry. Parentheses within the paragraph are used by this transcriber to add information to clarify an entry, or to record additional information written by the original lister. A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the quality of the document. The transcriber has used a circumflex (^) to indicate missing letters in a name or word. The original recorder showed this by writing the final letter/letters smaller and raising them above the line. An example would be W^m for William. At times there are a series numbers/letters written above or next to the name, or above the occupation column. This concerns the naturalization process. Click here for an explanation. #519 Is this passenger actually a male? Although listed as female, has a masculine name and the occupation of being a gardener. 548 Given name appears to be masculine, but listed as a female.
