Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the transcriber,
or is used to call attention to additional information in the passenger notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the
manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.
The person compiling this list enters the letters "Fr." after various womens' names indicating
that they are the spouse/wife of the preceding passenger.
There are a number of passengers on this list whose names indicate an origination in Ostfriesland,
not only because of surnames unique to that area but also, I believe, the towns are incorrectly
spelled, i.e: Holtrup should probably be Holtrop; Spetzterfenn should probably be Spetzerfehn;
Akelsberg--Akelsbarg; Vossberg--Vossbarg; Kirchdorfermer--Kirchdorfermeer;Achtelbur--Ochtelbur;
Laer--Leer; Mehle--Melle; Wellingholthausen--Wellingholzhausen; and possibly
Weddewarden--Waddewarden.
Various other misspellings are found in this list: Wiskusin/Wisconsin; Ilionis/Illinois;
Iava-Iawa/Iowa, Quinci/Quincy, Kerkock/Keokuck.
Economist, Countryman, and Colonist were 19th century German terms for farmer/landowner/homesteader.
198 Kramer (Krämer) has an unlauted a.
199-202 I believe the place of origin for these entries should be the city of Leer.
221-222 Hofning (Höfning) has an umlauted o.
228 Berghofer (Berghöfer) has an umlauted o.
245 Age unclear--looks like 1/4.
250-252 Destination unclear. It is overwritten or crossed off. Probaby should be New Orleans
as the following passengers.
262 Age written as a fraction, changed by transcriber to year and month.
270-274 Information seems incorrect for some of these entries. Dick should probably by Dirk.
The gender for Fokken, Engelka, Hebe and Gretje seens wrong.
288 Surname may be Reber.
290 Unkotter (Unkötter) has an umlauted o so may also be Unkötter.
307 Age written as a fraction, changed by transcriber to year and month.
348 Age written as a fraction, changed by transcriber to year and month.
350 note in far right column: Gestorben (died)
353 Age written as a fraction, changed by transcriber to year and month.
355 Age unclear--may be 7.
357-360 Lutje (Lütje) has an umlauted u.
361-362 Note in far right column: one birth & die
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M259, Reel 42.
