Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the transcriber,
or is used to call attention to additional information in the passenger notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the condition of the
manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates letters are omitted and the following letter is superscripted.
The person compiling this list enters the letters "Fr." after various womens' names indicating
that they are the spouse/wife of the preceding passenger.
There are a number of passengers on this list whose names indicate an origination in Ostfriesland,
not only because of surnames unique to that area but also, I believe, the towns are incorrectly
spelled, i.e: Holtrup should probably be Holtrop; Spetzterfenn should probably be Spetzerfehn;
Akelsberg--Akelsbarg; Vossberg--Vossbarg; Kirchdorfermer--Kirchdorfermeer;Achtelbur--Ochtelbur;
Laer--Leer; Mehle--Melle; Wellingholthausen--Wellingholzhausen; and possibly
Weddewarden--Waddewarden.
Various other misspellings are found in this list: Wiskusin/Wisconsin; Ilionis/Illinois;
Iava-Iawa/Iowa, Quinci/Quincy, Kerkock/Keokuck.
Economist, Countryman, and Colonist were 19th century German terms for farmer/landowner/homesteader.
1 No given name listed.
2 Letters after the surname seem to be Fr.
9 Perhaps given name should be Herzfeld.
23 Lucken (Lücken) has an umlauted u. The orignination should probably read Spetzerfehn.
51 The orignination should probably read Spetzerfehn.
53 Given name Wubke (Wübke) has an umlauted u.
62-65 Hofer (Höfer) has an umlauted o.
76-80 I believe the place of origin should be Oltmannsfehn.
103 I believe the place of origin should be Holtrop.
104 Surname may be Siebens.
105 Lubben (Lübben) has an umlauted u.
106-112 It may be that the surname for all these passengers ought to be Bruns; because I
believe the list maker has reversed the first and last name of passenger #106 (ditto
marks are used to indicate surnames within a family) Also, the place of origin may be
Holtrop. Passenger #109 Lobbe (Löbbe) has an umlauted o.
113-121 Surname must be incorrect here. I believe it ought to be Franzen.
136-137 Horn (Hörn) has an umlauted o. I believe the place of origin should be Vossbarg.
138 Place of origin should probably be Ochtelbur.
144-146 Lubke (Lübke) as an unlauted u. Destination most likely Quincy IL.
147 Muller (Müller) has an umlauted u.
150-151 Losche (Lösche) has an umlauted o.
169 Origination should probably be Holtrop.
170-176 Luckens (Lückens) has an umlauted u.
177-181 Ruter (Rüter) has an umulauted u.
