SS Manhattan
I, J. A. Williams, Master of the S.S. "Manhattan", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said S.S. "Manhattan" at Liverpool via Queenstown from which Ports the said S.S. "Manhattan" has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

For most of the passengers, the recorder employs an abbreviated version of their given
name, such as "Cha^s" for Charles, "E^d" or "Edw^d" for Edward, "R^d" or "Rich^d" for
Richard, "Tho^s" for Thomas, "Hy" for Henry, "My" for Mary, "Jno" for John, "Marg^t" for
Margaret, "Sam^l" for Samuel, "Brid" for Bridget, and "Jas" or "Ja^s" for James, etc.
The recorder of the manifest abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as "Mercht"
for Merchant, "Inf^t" for Infant, "Mat^n" for Matron, "Spin" for Spinster and
"Lab^r" for Laborer.
14 Surname is recorded as "McLaghlin", but might possibly be "McLaughlin" or "McLoughlin".
38-40 Surname is recorded as "Sadler", but might possibly be "Saddler".
49 Passenger's Occupation is overwritten and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but Occupation is either "Mat^n" or "Wife".
106-112 Family surname is recorded both as "Brown" and as "Browne".
112 A notation associated with this infant passenger states that she "Died 7th April 1867".
The cause of death is not recorded.
131 Surname is recorded as "Flatelly", but might possibly be "Flatley".
