Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which explains the
entry.
A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the quality of
the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's Notes of what the
letter/letters may be.
A circumflex (^) is used to indicate missing letters in a name or word. The original lister
showed this by writing the final letter smaller and raising it above the line.
The column, "Died on the voyage" was eliminated from this transcription as there were no deaths
on this passage. There was, however, a child born: Passenger had a child on March 4. In the
"Part of the vessel occupied during the voyage" column, the original lister wrote "U.D.",
which probably means Upper Deck. For those who came from the United States originally, he
apparently listed the ship on which they had come to England. This is a very light manifest
copy and the original lister wrote with many flourishes, which interfered with the names above
or below, making them difficult to read.
The original lister did not number the passengers, nor did he provide a recapitulation; however,
it appears to be a complete manifest.
22 The occupation may be seamstress, but it is over-written and difficult to see clearly.
She may have come on the Henry Clay, but that is not clear.
25 The first letter of the surname is a smear. Some possibilities: Malvin, Calvin, Galvin.
32 Surname: Morony or Molony. There is a loop coming down from the above name and it is
not possible to see if the letter is an "l" or "r".
44 Occupation: Organist?
45 and 46 Ship: Susquehanna?
49-51 Surname possibilities: McCann, McCain, McCaine.
56-59 The first letter of the surname appears to be an "O", but name could be Eighan, or
possibly Olghan.
69 Age: Either 14 or 74.
73 & 74 Surname: Either Leucky or Leneky.
76 Surname: Betts or Buts.
81 Actual age: 2 yrs, 6 mos.
82-86 Surname: Linahan, Lenahan. For #82 there is a note recorded in the last column:
"Child born Mar. 4th".
89-100 Name is possibly Haire or Haine. #95-Actual age: 9 yrs,6 mos. #98 -Actual age:
4 yrs,6 mos.
102-104 Surname: Good or Hood, probably Hood.
120 Possibly this surname is Menelly or Monolly
122 Surname possibilities: McGaughan, McGarrigan.
125 Actual age 2-1/2 yrs.
131 There is an "x" after this name. At times listers used this to denote someone who was
ill on the voyage.
146 Surname: Vole or Voley.
149 Age may be 20.
159 Actual age is 2 yrs, 6 mos.
174 There is an "x" after this name. It may indicate that the passenger was ill on the voyage.
183 Actual age is 8 yrs, 6 mos.
202 Surname possibilities: K??vian, K?wian. This name just is not clear.
