SS Catalonia
I, Alexander McKay, Master of the S S Catalonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of Boston, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said ship at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port the said ship has now arrived; and that on said List are truly designated the age, sex and calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of the citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that the said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of the said passengers who have died on the said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passengers as to a protracted sojourn in this country. Transcriber's Notes:
There is a Manifest page of this sailing missing from the National Archives. Apparently in the
process of filming these pages, this one was missed. It is from passenger 133 to 179. In the
event that this page is made available from NARA, it will be added to this transcription.
This manifest has sustained some water damage, where the document was folded. Some of the
names can be read through the smear, but some simply cannot be read. It is through all pages
and is worse on some pages than others.
The column, "Date and Cause of Death" was elminated from this transcription as there were
no deaths on this passage.
The "Location of compartment or space occupied" column was abbreviated by the transcriber.

The transcriber has used the abbreviation PS for Protracted Sojourn. Most passengers
intended to remain in the United States. IT was used for those who were In Transit.
The original lister numbered the passengers and provided a recapitulation at the end
of the manifest.
This manifest sustained serious water damage, especially at the center of the individual
pages, through the entire document. Some of the entries simply are not able to be read.
A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the
quality of the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's
Notes of what this letter/letters may be.
An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which further
explains the entry.
485 Surname is in area of the water-stain. First name is clearly seen, but surname is
difficult to read. It may be McCo?ll??. The letter after "o" could be "u" or "n".
492 Linane, Luiane.
574 This name appears where there is water damage to the page. The surname could
possibly be Collage or Collae. It is difficult to see if the one letter goes
below the line or not.
575 The given name is impossible to read.
576-580 The given name for #576 may be Susan. The surname for all of these passengers
could be Burroughs.
598 Surname: Culshaw, Cutshaw.
621 This passenger was returning to Nova Scotia.
622 This name is in an area of severe water damage. The first name seems to begin with
surname has an "A" and 3 letters which go above the line as in "t", "l", "b", etc.
Possibly Arthur.
623 This name is impossible to read. It is water-damaged and also at the crease of
the document.
624 The country from which this passenger comes may be Norway. Last name could be Zustad.
625 This passenger may come from France.
626 He may come from France (ditto to above passenger). He is going to Montreal.
697 William James Rolfe (1827-1910) was an editor and author who edited Shakespeare's
plays and wrote of Shakespeare's life. He lived in Cambridge MA.
