   The Maritime History Archive (Canada): Captains
Lloyd's of London:
Lloyd's Captains' Registers, 1851-1948.
Certificates of Competency, masters and mates, Colonial
     Index of Newfoundland Captains, Maritime History Archive,
1991: an alphabetical listing of all captains whose names were entered on the certificates, with the name of the vessel served on and the date of its registry.

   The Maritime History Archive (Canada): Crew lists and logbooks are held at the Maritime History Archive.
British Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen: known as Agreements and
Account of Crew for British Empire vessels.
Agreement and Account of Crew and Official Logbooks for British Empire Vessels, 1863-1938, 1951-1976. The British Public Record Office at Kew has retained all surviving documents prior to 1860, as well as a random sample in the 1863-1938 period. The National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, England holds records for 1861-1862 and the years ending "5".

   Bristol Channel Pilots: A-Z Index
The Bristol Channel is probably one of the most dangerous shipping lanes in the world. The list of pilots comes from various sources such as Pilotage records, Census, Directories etc. The main ports on the Channel were Bristol, Cardiff, Barry, Swansea, Newport and Gloucester. Most Bristol Pilots were based at Pill near the mouth of the river Avon.
