Adoption Stories Submitted by Members of the Adoption Triad
Adoptees, Birth Families and Adoptive FamiliesOnly a handful of states have open records; in all others the records are sealed. Those involved in adoption, whether it be the adoptee, the birth family or the adoptive family have become statistics; perhaps nothing more than a number on a sealed file. In that file one would find the path leading to information so many have been denied; their original birth certificate, information about their birth, their heritage, their families and their medical background, the importance of which genealogists have long recognized. It's time for that recognition, that understanding, to spread, to spill over into the world community; time to educate and to teach.
It is my most sincere hope that putting a human face and words from your heart on these pages will not only assist you in your search for your roots but also begin to change a situation and an injustice that has existed for far too long.
The Adoption Story Board will give each of you an entire webpage, more space than a typical database will allow. Your story can be as long or as short as you wish and pictures can be included. Your story can be searched by date and state.
The stories you will find here have been contributed by adoptees, birth families and adoptive families who want to share a part of their heart with you. We need more stories; it's our opportunity to educate, to teach and to bring the faces of adoption out into the light. You don't need to remain a statistic sealed away in a dark archive or a locked filing cabinet any longer.
Any adoptee, birth family member or adoptive family member is welcome to send in their story. I hope you will include photos as well. I especially encourage Birth Mothers to participate. I know many of you were shamed by the experience of giving birth and surrendering your baby and you were told not to search. We are here to encourage and support your search. There are thousands of adoptees out there who wonder why you aren't looking for them. They want to know you, know where they came from, and fill that empty space in their heart that they have carried around for so long.
It is my hope that many wonderful reunions will result from the Adoption Story Board. Stories are accepted from any member of the adoption triad, adoptees, birth parents, siblings, and adoptive parents. We encourage those who have been reunited to share their stories too. However, if you just want to share information and for some reason a reunion seems out of the question, you can still add your story to this website. Your name and email address will remain confidential if you wish.
Please submit your story to the Adoption Story Board using the email link below. When you submit your photos, please do not resize them. I will do that for you so they fit well on your page.
Peace to you and those you love,
Aunt Patty, Founder/Coordinator
