In Search Of Daniel Luke Brennan

Born Birchill Hospital, Rochdale in Manchester, England

21 December 1978

I'm writing this on behalf of my mother. She gave birth to Daniel Luke Brennan when she was 18 years of age. She was with his father who was not a nice man. When Daniel was about 18 months old, Social Services took him because they thought Daniel was at risk being with my father.

Well, the truth was my father was a violent man who drank all the time and any woman who has been in that situation knows how hard it is to leave someone like that when they promise to change and you believe them because you love them.

The Catholic Children Rescue Society in Rochdale Lancashire in Manchester UK got involved and mother was allowed access to see daniel up until the adoption day (which was about April 1981.) Then he was gone from her life. Not a day went by that she did not think about him.

In the years that followed, she ended up having five more children by the same man and our Dad ended up getting worse with the violence. Finally, our mother was able to break the cycle of abuse, she left him and took us away from him. We had to run all the time in and out of refuges.

We have not had any contact with our father for 15 years. So here we are now, all grown up and doing well thanks to our mother. But she is still torn over Daniel, always trying to find ways to find him but has had no luck thats why I opened the group on facebook FIND OUR BROTHER MY MOTHERS SON DANIEL; BORN 21/12/78 to open peoples eyes, to spread the word in hopes that we will be reunited with him. [The link works for members of Facebook]

I had a message on facebook from some guy asking why am I trying to punish my brother, Daniel, by trying to find him. I basically said my mother was punished enough by my father. I think she has suffered enough. Some people can really be horrible. My Mum just wants to know he is okay and if he has been searching, she wants him to know us; he is welcomed with open arms. She thinks about him every day.

He was born in Rochdale Lancshire, Manchester UK and we believe he was adopted by a Catholic family, but the Catholic Rescue Society is not being very helpful as we have had no information from them. I understand they can not give us his last name or any details without his permission. We are stuck as to what to do now or where to turn. We just hope some day that he will try to contact before it's too late. I'm sure you know what I mean.

I just want Daniel to know it's not Mums fault to the reason he was adopted and I hope he has had a better life but please, please get in touch.

  • Name on Birth Certificate: Daniel Luke Brennan
  • Date of Birth: 21 december 1978
  • Place of Birth: Birchill Hospital, Rochdale in Manchester
  • Mothers Name on Birth Certificate: Susan Bell - our mum's maiden name
  • We believe he lived in and around Bolton area, Lancashire and Rochdale is in Lancashire, Manchester. We were told by Catholic Children Rescue Society that he went to university when he was 18, but we have no idea which one. He was placed with a Catholic family so I take it he is a Catholic himself. We were also told he kept his first name and that his adoptive parents adopted another son.

He is about 30 now. My Mum has been searching for years and we have had no luck. The reason he was adopted is because of the situation at the time with parents, but we no longer are in contact with our father. It has a big affect on our lives not being able to find him and we would like to get in touch with him. We've posted the only pictures we have of him was when he was younger.

Thank you so much for helping us hun, I really apreciate it truly, Gemma xxxx

It is our hope that many wonderful reunions will result from the Adoption Story Board. Stories are accepted from any member of the adoption triad, adoptees, birth parents, siblings, and adoptive parents. We encourage those who have been reunited to share their stories too. However, if you just want to share information and for some reason a reunion seems out of the question, you can still add your story to this website. Your name and email address will remain confidential if you wish.

Peace to you and those you love,
    Aunt Patty, Founder/Coordinator
