Transcriber's Notes:
*The date on this ship has been discovered to be 1836, although it is in
the NARA rolls for 1826. It has been confirmed from 2 sources now that
the arrival was in 1836. One confirmation is from a descendant of the
Haupts. Another confirmation was found by this transcriber who located
a reference to a journal kept by Adelheid Garlichs in "The Westfalians
from Germany to Missouri" by Walter D. Kamphoefner, pub. in 1987 by
Princetown University Press. In this work Kamphoefner states that "a
diary entry by a Femme Osage (Mo.) pastor's wife, Adelheid Garlichs,
from June 1836, only 5 months after her arrival" had interesting
observations about Americans who were not recently arrived immigrants,
such as that they were "'such free spenders, not at all frugal...'".
