I, P Q Bowne, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly Affirm that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Ship Star of the West whereof I am Master, from Liverpool So help me God. On the original manifest there was a column for "The country in which they intend to become inhabitants." Since it was marked United States for all passengers, that column was deleted here to save space. *The occupation "Spinister" is typed as written on the original document and not a mistake of the transcriber, but I believe it should be Spinster. Ditto marks were used on the original document in the occupation column for all members of the same family, even though they were very young children and infants. On the original document, the passengers were not numbered. They are numbered here to make the transcribers notes easier to follow. Passengers #72 thru #78 In the country of origin column, Germany was written over Great Britian so it could not be determined where they were from. All the other "musicians" on board were listed as being from Germany. Passenger #76 The transcriber could not determine if this name should be Felins or Felius. Passenger #151 - the name could be Condy or Coudy. Passenger #294 - Last name could be Hugenaut. Passenger #304 - Mary Bell was listed as a male, not a mistake of the transcriber. Passenger #400 - Chas O. Brien probably should have been Chas O'Brien. None of the other passengers were listed with a middle initial.
