Transcriber's Notes:
This ship carried the Muller ancestors of this transcriber to their
new home in St. Charles County, Missouri. Against all odds, for Muller
is one of the most common of German names, this line of Mullers has
been traced back to their home villages in Westfalen. The villages,
near the larger town of Lippstadt Westfalen, are named Ostinghausen (umlaut o),
Erwitte, Diestedde, and Wadersloh.
Theresa Muller aged 2 (here spelled incorrectly Dresige) was the great-great-
grandmother of the transcriber. Theresa's parents were Henry and Elisabeth
(born Berkenbusch) Muller. Henry's brother George and his family, and Henry and
George's mother Christina aged 59 were also on board. A number of this family
died within just a few years of emigrating. Christina (born Berlinghoff) Muller,
twice widowed in Germany, survived for only 1-1/2 years in her new home.
Henry Muller, father of Theresa, was gone by 1852.
Friedericka Muller, cousin of Theresa, was not found in Missouri by 1850.
Friedericka's brother Martin and sister Cetta (Elisabetha) also died very early.
It was, in fact, the death record for Cetta, found in St. Peter's Church,
St. Charles, Missouri, in 1850, which provided the only clue as to the origins
of this family. Once their records were found (Theresa and her immediate family
were found in the records of St. Christophorus Kirche, one of two Catholic
churches in Oestinghausen, Westfalen) it was possible to trace most of their lines
back to the 1600's.
Little Theresa Muller eventually married Bernard Koester, the son of other
German immigrants living in St. Charles, Missouri. Bernard's parents were
located on the ship Olbers, which arrived in New Orleans 8 December 1836.
