Correspondence April 21, 2000
I found my 3rd Great Uncle Simon Henrich BROCKSCHMIDT and family arriving
on this ship. They settled in the Knox County area of Indiana.
I know this to be Simon as he married Johanne "Hanne" Louise Meier in
Schoetmar, Lippe, Prussia, October 13,1833. Their children were in
fact Wilhemine Henriette, Herman August, Johanne Maria BROCKSCHMIDT.
Carl could be Simon's older brother and my 3rd Great Grandfather Herman
Heinrich BROCKSCHMIDT's son Carl Heinrich Wilhelm BROCKSCHMIDT, who
was born February 14, 1844. The other dates you have for the births
correspond with the dates I obtained from Schoetmar birth records
regarding Simon and family. MARK
Correspondence May 5, 2000
After years of searching, this transcription may have yielded
the name of my great-great grandfather, Johann Heinrich
"Henry" SCHNELL, the founder of Schnellville, Dubois Co., Indiana.
Joh. Hr. SCHNELLE, a 26-yr-old farmer from Mersen, is very close
to my Joh. Hr. SCHNELL, who would have been 25 in June
1846, and hailed from Giesel. He founded the town of Schnellville,
Indiana in 1865, after returning from the Civil War.
His naturalization record in the Dubois Co., Indiana Courthouse in
Jasper indicates that he "immigrated to New Orleans in 1847 when
he was between 25-27 years old."
Family history has that he made TWO trips, first to find work, and
then to fetch his family. This is likely his first trip, and 1847
his second.
Anyone researching Johann Heinrich Schnell may contact
