Johann David Hosch was born in Freudenstadt in 1815, came to Brooklyn in 1854,
and became a citizen in 1860. His two daughters, Louisa and Bertha, were born
in Brooklyn soon after. According to family tradition, he sent them back
to Germany for at least part of their education. There is no record of Johann
David Hosch in New York City from 1869-1879. This passenger list showing them
returning to New York must be the trip home! There is no record of Johann's death
in New York City, so it is presumed he finally went back to Germany and died
there. Both daughters married and died in Brooklyn. Louisa Hosch is my father's
grandmother; she died in the year I was born. If you have information about or
believe you may have a link to this family, please email the Schultz Family.
