Joan Rowan, Born 26 September 1875 at Crawick Mill, Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire,
Scotland and died, unmarried, the 12 February 1964. Picture
Although her name was Johnann, it is pronounced as "Joe-Ann". The spelling
"Joan" resulted because she was completely deaf, and there was some
miss-communication when she came to America. She arrived in the United
States on the ship "State of Nebraska" in 1894. Aunt Joan may have been
deaf, but she had a big heart, she was very bright, and she had a great
smile. She could also knit like a whirlwind, making anything without a
pattern. David Rowan, SLC, Utah
