SS Lessing

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, B. Voss, Master of the German SS Lessing do solemnly, sincerely and truly affirm that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Lessing at Hamburg Havre from which port said Lessing has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

Cabin passengers   were not numbered; passenger numbers have been added to aid with referencing. 7  gardner written as spelled by the original recorder, not the transcriber.12  Joseph Jacubeck - The * indicates as written on the Manifest.15  Christian Moller - The * indicates an umlaut over the o.17  Mor??? Rosenbl?? - This name was crossed out.  The last letter of the first name is     below the line.  There is an umlaut over the second to last letter of the last name.18  Auralie Rosenbl?? - This was indicated to be the same last name as #17 by a ditto mark.      Please see explanation for #17 above.19  Jda Rosenbl?? - This was indicated to be the same last name as #17 by a ditto mark.      Please see explanation for #17 above.27  Heinritz could be Heinrich.  The h in the occupation of "Smith" has a    hook on it that goes below the line; this is probably "smithy".30  Ernst Friedrich - The occupation looks like wather, watlrer.33  A B Johnson - The * indicates as written on the Manifest.  37  Caecilie Spe?el - Could be Spegel or Sjegel.38  Wilhelm Freita? - Could be Freitaj or Freitag; the age is either 24 or 29.40  Christian Rasmussen - The occupation looks like "shpmaker" with the "p" not going     below the line. Perhaps it is "shoemaker".43  Moses Suf - The * indicates an umlaut over the u.45  Joseph K?t?sik - The 2nd and 4th letters of the last name could be either a, o, or u.47  Nathan Tort?ann - The 5th letter(s) of the last name could be m or ur.49  Georg Dr??ing - Could be Drewing or Druring.51  Carl Durkoop - The * indicates an umlaut over the u.56  Br???? Gidlowsky - Looks like Braune, Brume, or Braunse.57  L?b Gidlowsky - Could be Lub or Lerb.58  B?rush ?????mann - The first name could be Barush.  The last name could be Thielmann,     Ghielmann, Glaulmann, Ghiulmann, Thiulmann, or Glutmann.59  Nathan Glu?? - The * indicates there is an umlaut over the u.  Could be Gludt or Gluck.62  Bernhard Muller - The * indicates an umlaut over the u.63  Friedrich Burkhardt - Could be Friedrick or Friedrich.66  ???is Bachmann - Looks like Uois or Alois.67  ?a?er Vonflue - The first letter could be X or R; the third letter could be a, u, or n.      The * in Swizerland indicates as spelled on the Manifest.69  Benedict Schla?g - Could be Schlang or Schlaug; the occupation is illegible due to a     rope design on the paper.70  Anna Haag - The occupation is illegible due to a rope design on the paper.71  Elisabeth Konig - The occupation is illegible due to a rope design on the paper.74  Ru? ?eligmann - The 3rd letter in the first name looks like v.  The last name could be     Geligmann or Seligmann.  75  Ferdinand Oste?r?eden - The 5th letter of the last name looks like u or n.76  Paul Wi?hmann - Looks like Wishmann or Wichmann.78  ???????d D???ach - First name: The 1st letter is either S or G.  The 4th letter falls     below the line.  The last letter is d.  Last name: The first letter is D or B.  The     4th letter is above the line.  The last two letters look like ch.85  ? G. McClellan - The first initial is illegible due to writing over.  There is a double     underscore beneath the lower case c in Mc.88  ?r Charles Blum - Could be Mr. but the first letter doesn't look like the other "M"s     written by this person.  The r is raised with a double underscore beneath it.91  Margarethe Appel - The * indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not     the transcriber.93  Eduard ?ieth?mmer - Looks like Niethammer.94  Joseph Des?haumes - Could be Desthaumes.  The * in occupation indicates as spelled on     the Manifest.
