From Liverpool to New York, January 7, 1879

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK – PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Charles William Kennedy, Master of the Germanic do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Steamer Germanic at Liverpool from which port said Steamer Germanic has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. So help me God.

     a plus sign put in months column.  There is also an entry at far right, looks like    
     a word (????) then 2 then another word (???????).  The last word seems to be 2 words, "dies ????"    
     (guessing at word, but starts with di). A date follows "? Jan /79".  This appears to be date    
     of death based on last note below.  The day is unreadable, but had to be after the 7th.    
  97 and 98 Last name could be Pareout    
 102 Last name could be Pgyvan or Phyvans or Peyvano or Pezvano.  First letter is P, and last letters are van?    
 108 First name is an abbreviation; last name could be Gerban    
 116 First name initial could be an H    
 160 Age could be 29    
 175 and 176 Last name could be Wetch    
 176 The number 30 was entered in the country the person was going to column.  Doesn't    
     appear to represent a count.    
     
 At bottom of last page a count of 146 is entered.  A note under it is "1 dies No 88."     
 Then an entry of "145 Total" is entered under the note.  See note for 88 above.    
    
 The letter "x" is entered at the far right of the page as if a check off.  All of the Saloon    
 Passengers and only Steerage passengers 13, 19, 59, 70, 74, 75, and 83 have the "x" entered.
