Correspondence 9/26/99 passengers 151-160 Berends
I have found my great great great grandparents on your ship list. They are numbers 151 through 160. The name on the list is "Berends." The husband is Johann and the wife is Catherine. The children are Johann, Albert, Anna, Dina, Bernard, Louis, Arnold and Henri. My great great great grandparents left from LeHarve, France on the Ship George F. Patten. After getting off the ship in New York, they traveled to Green Bay, WI by boat and then continued on to Little Chute and Freedom, WI. They probably went by wagon between Green Bay and Little Chute. Johanna Henridcus Berends(en) settled on a farm but later owned a bakery. He had owned a bake shop in Didam, The Netherlands prior to his move to the states. His children all married and settled in the same area (Little Chute, Kaukauna, Freedom and Green Bay, WI).Marilyn Berendsen Stodola
Correspondence 4/17/00 I have found my Great Grandfather Jacob Behringer and his wife Eva Schreck on the ship Geo. F. Patten (numbers 233-236). After arrival in the United States they moved to Two Rivers, Wisconsin, then briefly moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, and then returned to Wisconsin, settling in Manitowoc County, first Centerville, then Newton Township. Members of the family still live there and the Newton homestead still stands and was featured in the Manitowoc newspaper recently. Members of the family later settled around the Mosinee area.James M. Behringer Correspondence 05/28/03 passengers #273-275 Bufort My great, great, great grandmother Angeline Schummer Befort (written Bufort #273 on the manifest) is on this passenger list. Angeline is listed as coming to the U.S. with 3? of her children. I know that Mathias and Maria are her children but have never heard of Marn, especially as Mathias was suppose to be the baby of the family. Angeline was married to Jean Pierre Befort and they were from Grevenmacher, Luxembourg. They also had 2 more boys -- William (my g-g-grandfather) and John who possibly arrived in NY in/abt 1852 with Jean Pierre. The family first settled in Sheldon, Wyoming Co., NY and attended the St. Cecilia Catholic Church there. Later they headed west to Manitowoc Co., WI and eventually settled in Chester Twp., Wabasha Co. and Belvidere Twp., Goodhue Co., MN and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester, Goodhue Co., MN and Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa, Wabasha Co., MN. William married Anna Deville (a native of Hachy, Belgium), William married Maria Reding (from near Vichten, Luxembourg), Mathias married Josephine Wise (born in IL and brought to MN with my g-g-g-g grandparents Claude Gombert and Anne-Marie Remy -- wasn't officially adopted), Mary married John C. Clemens (of Consdorf?, Luxembourg).
