I, Charles Henry Andrews, Master of the SS Erin do solemnly, sincerely, and truly affirm that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board of the said SS Erin at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Port said SS Erin has now arrived; and that on the said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs; and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. He was a banker and businessman (he was a director of the British railway company which named an engine after him), and later wrote a book "The Pedigree of the Family of Royds" which was published privately in 1910. He lived in Rochdale, Lancashire, where his ancestors had built their fortune in the wool trade in the latter half of the 18th Century and which they then used to found a bank. He did not settle in the US, and his descendants remained in the UK.
