Transcriber's Notes:
* There is some question as to the correct name for this ship. On one
sheet of the manifest it appears that the name of the ship is "Bark Dyle" and the Captains name is Somes or Soomes. On another page the
name of the ship appears to be "Bark Dyle Soomes". Because of this
question I have chosen to call it the Bark Dyle and give the Captain
the name Somes or Soomes. I will leave it at that and on the Surname
list the Captain's name will be listed as Somes and Soomes. See below
* #'s 3,ll,18,30,42,67,82,94,96,100,115. These are all infants and
children that have no given name or age. I am guessing that they
are under the age of 1 year.
* #62 This name could also be spelled with a t in place of the l. That
would make the name spelled Herlhing or Herthing.
* #63 This question mark could be either a g or a z. Making the spelling
of the name Berheang or Berheanz.
* #72-76 This name appears to be spelled Bluker but there are two dots above
the up turned legs of the u. This could be an umlant. Or the name could
also be spelled Bliiker.
* #85 This given name is more than likely George. The^ indicates that
the o is above the line.
* #105 The age of Edward Spartz could be 26.
* #106 The age of Caroline Spartz could be 26.
* #107 This surname is spelled Sparltz but it could be a misspelling of
Spartz.
* #108 This name could be Fredrick or Frederick. The ^ indicates that the
k is above the line.
* #111&113 The names are more then likely Edward. The ^ indicates that
the d is above the line.
* #136 This question mark could be an A. Making the name Anileback.
* #139-140 Rodins could be the surname of these two passengers. Making
them Otto Rodins and Christain Rodins.
9-15 Correspondence -1/00 Schussler fanily
The following information was received on the Schussler family:
Johann Adam Schussler, Eva Katharina Dischinger Schuessler, Johannes,
Conrad, Jacob, (the source shows Christina b.Sept. 5, 1843, but not
Guillanme). The infant was Katerina, who died when the family arrived
in Indianola, Texas. Johannes served in the Mexican War. John or
Johann Adam Schuessler died in Mason County,Tx in 1884. The others
settled in Mason County, Tx and have many decendants in Texas.
The family researcher shows that the ancestor John Adam Schuessler or
Schussler was on this ship. There is a list of his children from the
Evangelical Congregation at Bonfeld in Germany that shows Christiana was
born Sept. 5,1843.
Further information on this family may be obtained at
richardh@mail.thrifty.net
(Note: The name appears as Guillamne, not Christiana, on the passenger
list. Perhaps it was written incorrectly or Guillamne is part of
Christiana's name.)
The "Dyle" is a small river in Belgium. There is also a village by
that name. A battle was fought in this area in World War 1. I would
guess that the ship was named after this river or village. I don't
think that my family name "Dyle" came from this river, but was a
misspelling of "Doyle". Thought this may shed a little light on
the name of this ship. Curtis Dyle (thank you Curtis. ISTG Staff)
