I, E. Deddes, Master of the Steamship P. Caland, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Steamship P. Caland at ___________ from which port said Steamship P. Caland has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, ther country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.
Sworn to, this Apl 10 1879, [signature is unreadable] E. Deddes So help me God.
List or Manifest of all the passengers taken on board the Steamship P. Caland, whereof E. Deddes is Master, from Rotterdam, burthen 2528 tons.
Columns represent: Names, Years, Months, Sex, Occupation, The country to which they severally belong. There are three other columns on the original manifest; The country of which they intend to become inhabitants, Died on the voyage, Part of the vessel occupied. Since the column 'The country of which they intend to become inhabitants', is all US of America, it has been omitted. No passengers died during the voyage, so that column has been omitted. All except two of the passengers were in the Steerage section of the ship, so that column has been omitted. In 1879, Johannes Landewe (49) was a farmer near Haaksbergen, Overijssel
Province in the Kingdom of Holland. He sold his farm to his brother,
Hendrik Landewe. Then with his wife, Hendrika Groot Kormelink (41)
and six children: Anthony (13), Johanna (11), Bernadina (9), Marie C.
(8), Herman (5) and Gertrude Katherine (3) all immigrated to America.
They embarked in Antwerp, Zuid Holland Province, Kingdom of Holland,
on the Ship "P. Caland" of the Netherlans - America Steam Navigation Co.
The family arrived in New York, NY., on April 11, 1879, and eventually
settled near Laflin, in Liberty Township, Bollinger Co., MO.
