January 13, 1879

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, John E Muiland Master of the "Batavia" do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of the Passengers taken on board of the said "Batavia" ?nt Liverpool & Queenstown from which Port said "Batavia" has now arrived; and that on the said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs,and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant: and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died.

Columns represent name, age, sex, occupation, the country to which they severally belong, The country of which they intend to become inhabitants and Part of the Vessel occupied by each Passenger during the Voyage.

 * There were no deaths recorded on this voyage, therefore this column has Been omitted.


 * Spelling of Captain's last name was compared to the manifest of Batavia passengers
    from 25 January 1878 to insure transcriber's interpretation.

 * Passenger numbers were added to the cabin passengers for ease in referencing.

    4  Occupation may be Printer.
  5-6  Surname may be Revsen or Revson.
    6  First name may be Eliza.
   11  Surname may be Butter or Butler and the occupation may be Grocer.
   12  Second letter of first name may be b and the lastletter may be n.
       The first letter of the surname may be G.
   13  Occupation may be spinster.
   14  Surname may be Pearce.
16-17  It may have a t before the l in ....land.
   19  First name may be Julius.
   20  First name may be Ove.
   21  First name may be Jorges.
24-25  Occupation may be Servant.
   27  First name may be Ella.
   28  First name may be Jessie.
35-36  Surname may be Paget.
   38  Surname may be V??de.
