SS Abyssinia
I, Michl* Murphy Master of the S.S. Abyssinia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board of the said S.S. Abyssinia at Liverpool from which Port said S.S. Abyssinia has now arrived, and that on the said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. Correspondence 3/08/2003 passengers #66 & 67 Theis
I have located my great-grandfather Phillip Theis - states he was from
Germany, but actually Rippweiler, Luxembourg. I know that he was a gardener
in France before leaving for the US. His brother Nichlas is also listed on
the ship manifest.
My great-grandfather eventually settled in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, had sons,
Louis, George, Charles, and daughter Leona. Married a Helena Klein. Don't
know much about her. Louis had 3 children, settled in California, George had
one son, Tom who still lives in Lone Wolf. Charles, my grandfather,
settled in Topeka, Kansas and had two sons, my father Charles Jr., and Earl
both deceased. Leona settled in Colorado and had one daughter, June - still
living. Phillip died in Strasburg Colorado - I think in 1950 at the home of his daughter.
Nichlas settled in Marysville, Kansas - had several children - I only really
knew one daughter, Emma. He died in 1921 in Marysville.
