Cornwallis held on board the Beaufort his first Council meeting for Nova Scotia on 14 July 1749. (Minutes of Council dated 14 July 1799). A second meeting was held on board the Beaufort a few days later, on the 17th of July. (1) Again on the 18th, 19th. 13th of August, 14th of August. 28th August. 18th September. 1 October 1749. By the 14th of October the meetings had changed location, to "The Governors Apartment at Halifax". In a letter from Cornwallis to Lords of Trade, dated 20 August 1749, he writes that the Alexander was had already sailed, and in a few days he hoped to be able to discharge the rest.
